Ross Barkley was a huge part in England’s U21 team
Team:
Ross Barkley was a huge part in England’s U21 team that recently qualified for the European championships. However, manager Gareth Southgate has left him out of the under 21 squad for the tournament itself.
This decision has been criticised in some regards, as this was seen as a great opportunity for Barkley to get some tournament experience. After having recently made his debut for the senior team, Everton manager Roberto Martinez has backed the decision of Southgate. Martinez feels that it is time forBarkley to continue his development with the senior team rather than join up with the U21 team once again.
Barkley has been one of the standout performers in the Premier League this season. Even though his presence has not exactly helped Everton breakthrough the poor form for much of the campaign, it has been widely speculated that his good performances is likely to result in a transfer sooner rather than later. Chelsea and Manchester City have held a long-standing interest in the player, but Martinez remains adamant that Everton do not want to sell him.
After having made 12 appearances for the England senior team,Barkley could be set for more minutes on the pitch in the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers once the domestic season concludes. According to one of the best sites for betting on Euro 2016, he is odds-on to make the squad for the tournament Finals in France this summer.
"I think Ross is a player who has already been in a tournament with the senior side and it is common sense when you are in the Under-21s and go into a big tournament it is to prepare you for the seniors.I think with Ross it makes sense he is allowed to concentrate on the senior squad. He hasn't been involved in the qualifying rounds and I think it makes sense the team that qualified stayed for the tournament. He needs a good break. I think it has been an incredibly mature role the one he has developed this season,” said Martinez.
