Digne praises Everton fans after winning Fans’ Player of the Season award
Everton defender Lucas Digne has praised the club’s supporters after winning the Fans’ Player of the Season accolade. The Frenchman has been a revelation since making the move from Barcelona last summer and he ended his maiden Premier League campaign with four goals and four assists from the left-back spot while also impressing with his composure.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Digne gave a special mention to the club’s faithful after being voted as the Fans’ Player of the Season, he said: “It’s a big pleasure for me to win this award because the fans chose me. I have a very good feeling with the Evertonians. They welcomed me the best way I could imagine. From the beginning against Valencia, it was an amazing atmosphere in Goodison and it is always just amazing to play in front of them.”
Apart from that accolade, Digne also shared the Player’s Player of the Season award alongside Idrissa Gueye and the Toffees will be hoping that the Frenchman can maintain the same level of consistency when the club embark on another Premier League campaign. Marco Silva’s side did not make the best of starts to the 2018/19 season despite a friendlier schedule and there was one period where a section of the fans had questioned the manager’s position.
However, Silva continued to remain the backing of owner Farhad Moshiri and it paid dividends during the final months of the season, where Everton managed to outclass some of the Premier League’s elite. The Merseyside outfit managed to beat Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal on their home turf and in addition to that, they were able to grab draws against Tottenham Hotspur and arch-rivals Liverpool – the latter which proved the catalyst towards the Reds missing out on the Premier League title by the single point.
