Everton has defeated Newcastle United in a Premier League match played at St. James’ Park on Wednesday. Everton won the match by a close margin of 2-1. This was the ninth victory for Everton in the ongoing Premier League. With this victory, Everton has moved up to no. 5 in the points table.

On the other hand, this was the 11th defeat for Newcastle United in the ongoing League. However, despite the defeat, Newcastle is still at no. 15 in the points table with 20 points in 21 matches.

Newcastle United started the match in a blistering fashion and got ahead in the 2nd minute of the match. It was Papiss Cisse who opened the scoring for Newcastle. Tim Krul’s long kick fell in the way of Cisse who chipped the ball over the Everton goalkeeper to take Newcastle ahead by 1-0.

The scores got levelled just a couple of minutes before the half time break. The Everton team got a free kick in the 43rd minute of the match and Leighton Baines was given the responsibility to take the free kick. The English left back just smashed the ball into the far corner of the net. The ball swung away from the Newcastle goalkeeper and he had absolutely no chance.

Everton managed to get ahead by 2-1 in the 60th minute of the match with the goal of Victor Anichebe. Nikica Jelavic set up the goal with a brilliant left footed cross to Anichebe who deflected the ball into the net. The Newcastle team failed in scoring the equalizer in the remaining time and lost the match.

Everton’s next match will be a FA Cup encounter against Cheltenham Town on Monday.
