BARKLEY EVER PRESENT

Team:

Everton midfielder Ross Barkley has been an ever present for the club this season. He has started in all the Premier league matches, while also helping the club move closer to the top four.

It has been a great start for Everton under Roberto Martinez, as they are sixth in the table after nine matches in the season. They have lost just one match this season, and Barkley has been an integral part of everything good that by the club so far. Due to the constant football, there is a danger of Barkley suffering from tiredness in the second half of the campaign.

Martinez has acknowledged this and has suggested that he will rest Barkley at an appropriate time in the season. The 20-year-old was taken off after just 60 minutes in the 2-0 win over Aston Villa during the weekend. Romelu Lukaku scored the first goal for the club in the 68th minute, while Leon Osman secured three points with his late goal nine minutes from the final whistle. Martinez has said that he has still not seen signs that Barkley needs time off, but when he does, he has plans to rest him. Everton will be having a tough match during the weekend when they take on top four chasing Tottenham.

“Football will make that decision. I am not going to be someone who will do something unless I see clear signs that a player needs to be rested or given a breather. When you are young you can cope with anything as along as everything is being done in the right way,” said Martinez. The form of Romelu Lukaku, who is on loan from Chelsea, has also been a major boost for the club. The Belgian international has already scored five goals in the league and is one of the top scorers in the division.
